I used to be the perfect man
Until I met the perfect girl
She didn’t seem to understand
I had to rearrange my hand.

So we went about the town
We travelled on the Underground
We slept by day and moved at night
We saw the sights by artificial light

I couldn’t feel, I didn’t mind
That wasn’t being so unkind
She wanted things we couldn’t find
There was some shouting,
And stuff got thrown around.

I used to be the perfect man
Then I met the perfect girl
I didn’t seem to understand
I had to rearrange my plans

“Don’t ever leave” I underlined,
“I think I’m going out of my mind!”
Of all the things we couldn’t find,
There was this notion,
Or was it a dream … ?

I used to be the perfect man.

But, no problem, no pain
With nothing to lose and not much to gain,
Swing low and walk tall,
Most of the writing is up on the wall…
